Name: Riza Hawkeye
Door: RIGHT

Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Canon Point: Episode 19: "Death of the Undying"

Age: 25
Appearance: 1 2

History: History
Personality:

  • Guilt
  • Guilt defines Riza in a large way. Riza is racked with a deep sense of guilt and regret over the actions of her father and her own participation in the Ishvalan Civil War, where she participated in atrocities and reprisals against rebelling Ishvalan independence fighters. Her father, Berthold was an Alchemist who developed the famed Flame Alchemy which would become famous through Roy Mustang. Riza has grown to despise war and bloodshed, but still "dirties herself" as a soldier as a necessary evil in order to help Roy Mustang become the leader of Amestris in the hopes of creating a better world for future generations. While her father's Flame Alchemy is part of her guilt, the bulk comes from her own participation in war and the lives she has taken in the service of her country.

  • Obstinate
  • Or you could just call her stubborn. Riza is generally a flexible person able to adapt to changing circumstances. However, especially when it comes to Roy, her loyalty can turn into something more unpleasant. She refuses to bend, even in the most dire of circumstances (while bleeding to death, she encourages Roy to fight on, even if it means her death). Even the sacrifice of her life is seen as a acceptable, should the right situation arise. This can also manifest as her being extremely controlling. She likes to take charge of situations and feels most comfortable when she or someone she trusts is directing things. Especially in regards to Roy Mustang, she doesn't hesitate to dress him down, talk over him, or do what she thinks is in his best interest in the face of danger.

    • Calm/Taciturn
    • Riza has one hell of a poker face. She rarely, if ever, lets herself be seen as being overly emotional or affected by the things that happen around her. Part of this is a purposefully cultivated in order to make herself a useful and unflappable assistant to Colonel Roy Mustang. Another part is that she is simply a disciplined and unflappable type who is dedicated both to her cause and to her duties. This can also manifest as a callousness and ruthlessness towards those who stand in the path of her goals. While she is not indifferent to the suffering of others, she is capable of coolly compartmentalizing their well-being and health as secondary. Even if violence is distasteful, she views it as necessary for the success of bringing about a better world and has decided to willingly saddle herself with the shedding of further blood.

    • Idealistic
    • Riza is a dedicated follower of Roy Mustang and shares his hopes for a future for Amestris that can be free of prejudice, war, and bloodshed. While she keeps a tight lid on these beliefs around everyone but Roy, for the most part, it is the driving force behind her devotion and dedication Roy Mustang. Seeing first hand the death and destruction wrought by war and by alchemy, Riza is dedicated to bringing about a better future for Amestris and creating a better world for all those to come after her. This extends to Roy Mustang, the man she follows. She is willing to kill him for their shared ideals in the case that he ever goes too far. Roy understands and accepts this and even welcomes it. Like Riza, he has no desire to be a crazed dictator or unhinged murderer.

    • Loyal
    • Loyal to the point that this might well be considered a fault. Riza has dedicated herself to Roy Mustang and Roy Mustang's ideals and this is perhaps one of the only driving forces she has in her life. During the confrontation with Lust, when she believes that the Homunculus has killed the colonel, she falls into a deep, emotional despair and she, for a brief time, loses the will to live as it seems she would prefer to also be killed by Lust rather than continue to exist without Mustang. This is reciprocal--Riza Hawkeye is the woman who Roy Mustang unquestionably trusts with his life, even if he does foolish things that involve throwing himself into danger for her sake, even when her wish is for him to stay safely out of danger. This loyalty from Riza isn't blind, though. She is prepared to stop Mustang from violating his own code of ethics and is willing to kill him if he ever goes too far in his pursuit of power--even though this would undoubtedly result in her own death.
